Wreathed in Magic and Love Birthing the New World: Witches, Ride

A much-loved sister spoke her hard truth during the night. Another has spun out from her sad illness. And a third sits among the beauty she has wrought.

I woke to fog so deep and cold that it startled me. Here in the southern highlands, the world has become strange, dangerous, unfamiliar. But there is a larger world of hurt and madness that marches around our devastation and sorrow.

This is the time when witches, real witches, stand outside the chaos of time and breathe out the new world coming. The madness swirls around us but we stand together, holding hands, gripping shoulders. Strong, focused. We can’t see as clearly as we’d like but we have a deep knowing and that holds us firm and tall. We are here, together, in all that this is. We stand, wreathed in magic and love, and observe the painful unfolding. Love to you all, as we stand.

May our Ancestors hold us close, whispering their cunning. May the Divines awaken and seed courage in our hearts. May we listen and clearly hear.

May the undying Sun awaken in us the clear vision we lack as we surge forward. We are in the hands of history and maybe Fate. Leave food for the land spirits and silver for the Other Folk.

Witches, time to ride.

Forward.

Together with their sisters, the Hyades, they were called the Atlantides, Dodonides, or Nysiades, nursemaids and teachers of the infant Dionysus. The Pleiades were thought to have been translated to the night sky as a cluster of stars, the Pleiades by Elihu Vedder and were associated with rain.

The Celts associated the Pleiades star cluster with Samhain, a festival that marked the transition from summer to winter:

The Pleiades and Samhain
The Druids believed that the rising of the Pleiades at the end of summer marked the triumph of night over day and the beginning of the moon's rule. Some believe that Samhain occurred on the night the Pleiades reached its highest point in the sky at midnight
