A guest post by Molly Remer of Brigids Grove
“We honor the spiraling circle of women,
those who have held us,
those who stand beside us,
and those who will come after us.
For anyone who feels unseen,
unheard,
or unprotected tonight,
we hold you in the center of our circle.
May you find a place to belong to
and return to,
sisters to witness you,
and enough light
to find your path.
Our songs liberate and inspire us.
Our rituals root us.
Our intentions bloom into action.
With breath,
with hands,
with seed,
and song,
so may it be.” 💚
International Women’s Day has passed now, but this is the poem I wrote in honor of it. On March 8, I was actually gathered with my own small circle of women, reflecting on the classic quote from Judith Durek (Circle of Stones) asking “how might your life have been different, if you had a circle of women.” Fortunately for me, I have always had a circle of women.
I distinctly remember my own mother being given a copy of the book Circle of Stones by her own circle of women when I was about 9 years old. I read it myself then, loving the poetic language, and always knowing, from my earliest days, how life is, when you DO have a circle of women.
