Repositioning Thanksgiving
In the United States, Thanksgiving is a secular national holiday, although it is one with a dirty history. Hidden in plain sight, among the celebration of harvest and bounty is a lot of white-washing of American history and the genocide of Indigenous peoples across the country.
Some who choose to celebrate Thanksgiving choose also to make offerings and prayers to the souls of those who were violently murdered in the ‘settling’ of the United States.
As this is celebrated as a feast of bounty, it may well be dedicated to the Mother, even if it is one of her more hidden faces.
Creatrix as the Goddess of Thanks
Creatrix means female creator. She creates worlds, beasts, babes, books, artworks, armies, stories, songs, languages, life, evolutions, and revolutions of thought. She creates culture and she creates the wild.
In the linear sense, Creatrix is the middle stage of life. She holds the position of grounding the energy of Potens and laying the groundwork for the coming time of wisdom.
Change Your Perspective
Stop thinking that the world revolves around you and that the rest of the world sees things from our United States culture.
Celebrated on or around autumanal equinox (around September 23 in the Northern Hemisphere and March 20 in the Southern Hemisphere), the second harvest festival is like Thanksgiving. It is a celebration of bounty, beauty, abundance. It is also a time of welcoming the autumn rains. It is a time to celebrate all that has been given of her body.
Make an Altar of Gratitude
Creatrix wants your creations. The items you put on her altar may be representations of the thing or things that you’re pulling or breathing in to being.

“Jailbreaking the Goddess is an important contribution to the writings on Goddess tradition and feminist spirituality. . . . I love her political savvy, her sensitivity around issues of diversity and cultural awareness and appropriation, and her unabashed celebration of pleasure, sensuality, and life!”―Starhawk
Jailbreaking the Goddess is a revolutionary revisioning of the feminine divine. Where the maiden, mother, crone archetypal system is tied to female biology and physical stages of life, the fivefold model liberates the female experience from the shackles of the reproductive model.
In a woman’s lifetime, she will go through several different cycles of beginnings, potential, creation, mastery, and wisdom. This fivefold model is not an adaption of the threefold. It is a new system that embraces the powerful, fluid nature of the lived experience of women today.
Join Lasara Firefox Allen as she explores the nature of the five archetypes; gives examples of what areas of life each might preside over; lists goddesses that fit within each archetype; suggests ways to begin building relationship with the different archetypes; and provides simple rituals for recognition, transition, and invocation.
“Jailbreaking The Goddess is a delicious tool for dismantling (and reimagining) the way we think about women’s spirituality and power. [The] fivefold goddess model honors the divine nature in all women, regardless of age, ability, sexual orientation, gender identity, race, and economic status. This is an exciting, smart, and practical approach to liberating the mind, body, and spirit.”
