After my second divorce and fourth child, when I found myself at a crossroads that I never expected to be at in life, I took my retirement money and bought ten acres of land in the Appalachian mountains. I call it Mother Well. I had a shack put on the sloping hill, one half on stilts, chicken legs, a sign proclaiming ‘Baba Yaga’ hut. Ancient mother in the woods.
The first weekend my partner and I stayed there, as we were packing to leave, we lifted the mattress.
And there was a Scorpion.
I got over my fear, and we drove home in separate cars. Me, mindlessly snacking on the food bag next to me in the front seat.
The next day, I went to put away the food in that bag and found another Scorpion.
I would make a guess that right now your shadows are coming up for you. These are the times.
Honor it.

Grab a friend or your best friend … yourself.
Sit down somewhere quiet. Light a candle and put some items that call to you in front of you.
Read some astrology. Sing a song. Rise with the Fire by Reclaiming. “Truth is the fire that burns our chains, and we can stop the fire of destruction. Healing is the fire running through our veins. And we can rise with the fire of freedom.”
Listen to a meditation. I recorded this one from Anodea’s book nine years ago. Not the best recording, but you don’t have to be perfect to create. Create anyhow.

Be sure to journal your Shadows and some intentions for this New Moon.

Ahh! thanks for the reminder!! Double Scorpio here.And yesterday, indeed, some of my shadows came out–in a furious exorcistic rush of terror and rage, locked in my hips since I was 13 years old. It led me crying and screaming, hissing and spitting until I could see finally the last bits of my tormenter drift towards the horizon and evaporate, leaving me miraculously capable of moving a hip to lift a foot that had been frozen incapable of movement just minutes before.
