Asherah and Elohim:  Exploring Two Sides of the Same Coin

by Caryn MacGrandle, creator of the divine feminine app

I have been following this Path for so long.  She calls. I answer.

A good friend of mine Janet Rudolph asks me to read a manuscript for her upcoming book “The Music of Creation:  Exploring Vibration in the Bible.”  I pick up her manuscript and another book that jumps out at me:  “Asherah: Roots of the Mother Tree” by girl god books. I take both of them into my sunroom to read.

Janet’s manuscript speaks of Sacred Languages for which the sounds and words for divinity call in Divinity itself.

Hebrew.
Elohim.  Asherah.

I chuckle as I look down at the other book I have randomly grabbed.

And in the beginning, there were Two Sides of the same coin.

I love the metaphor that Janet gives. It was not polarity, it was a swinging door on a hinge.

One side masculine animus doer hunter conquerer.
The other feminine:  nurturing, cyclical, natural, Life and Death bringing.

But Asherah was damned and subdued.  Eve the root of sin.  Curiosity silenced.  You shall not worship false idols.

Asherah is the ‘False Idol’ that the Bible speaks of.  Those who worship trees.

“I finally get what Paganism is, Mom” my daughter tells me.

Well, you could have just asked me, I think to myself.

“Oh, really, what is it?” I ask her.

Polytheism, the worship of many Gods.

Ah ya, a simplified answer.

A better answer I tell her:  Paganism is Earth Spirituality: as old as Our Story. Paganism is the belief that Divinity can be found in so many more places than a church. The rivers, the trees, the mountains.  Within yourself.

Paganism is the belief that to stand under a full moon alongside a river bank, the moonlight dancing in the water is to stand next to God, to stand next to the Goddess.

Get still and quiet and listen.

You will find Her.

That which stands outside our every day lives. That which connects us. Inspires us. Propels us.

“And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.” Exodus 3:13-15

…The core of this passage lies in Exodus 3:14 where Moses has asked for the personal name of divinity and is answered.  The traditional translation is I AM THAT I AM.  In phonetic Hebrew it is ehyeh-asher-ehyeh.  – The Music of Creation by Janet Rudolph

Asher – the root of the name of the Goddess Ashera.

Ha!  I read the above in Janet’s manuscript, and I look down and see the book next to me ‘Asherah: roots of the mother tree’ by girl god books.

She calls, and I answer.

“She spoke life.  And We Lived.” Maya Angelou.

Asherah.  Innanna.  Isis.  Sophia.
Mami Wata, Shakti, Danu, Freya.
Ishtar, Morrigan, Brigid, Hathor, Gaia
Oshun, Magdalena, Quan Yin, Green Tara

…When power swung from Oneness to Violence
God was many.  God was all.
God was water, air, fire and soil.
When Asherah stood next to Him
Hail God and Goddess
Asherah and Eloihim.

…We call to you Asherah

From Eirini about the picture:

TO THE MOTHER OLIVE TREE OF CRETE

My trip to Crete has been relatively short this time but long enough to feel a deep connexion with the land, its ancient echoes & some beloved people.

I have enjoyed some ceremonies, good company & food but what has left me astounded is the connexion with a grove of millenial olive trees.

Those time tamers were between 600 & 3.000 years old, having witnessed centuries of history passing by.

A still living part of my ancestors is here to quietly guard the spirit of deep & essential Crete.

Thank you beloveds for:

🌿Having fed thousands of generations,
🌿Having offered us your medicine.
🌿Having shared your delicious shadow during the hot Summers.
🌿Having witnessed thousands of stories.
🌿Having protected all sorts of animals.
🌿Having given us your wood for so many uses.
🌿Maintaining the frequency of my ancestors alive.

Deep bow for this natural temple. 💚
